A1 #1 "Cheese"
Cheese is a popular food that is enjoyed in nearly every part of the world. The origins of cheese are somewhat unclear, but it is clear that it developed in many parts of the world at the same time. One story is that a shepherd put milk into a leather bag so he could carry it during his day in the fields. He probably put the bag of milk in a cool cave to keep during the day and maybe forgot about it for a while. When he eventually found it again, bacteria had started turning the milk into cheese.
A1 #2 "My Dog Dash"
I once looked out my window and saw a rainbow in the sky. The sun was shining through the clouds and the birds were singing in the trees. I thought, what a nice day it is today. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. I went to see who it was and when I opened the door I got such a shock. I looked outside and who did I see but my old dog dash. Dash had run away a few weeks before and I thought I would never see him again. But here he was, back home once more.
A1 #3 “Paper”
Where does paper come from? Who first made paper? What was there before paper? I use paper every day. I try not to waste paper, but I often do. When I think about how paper is made from trees, I am amazed. Some people say that paper comes from Egypt. Some people say it comes from China. I know most things come from China these days, so maybe paper does too. Traditional Japanese paper is very nice, heavy paper, with a good feel. I like paper from Japan better than paper made in China. I'm sure the paper from Egypt is nice too.
A1 #4 “Fishing”
It was a fine day for fishing. I pulled my tackle box and rod out of the trunk and headed down to the water's edge. After baiting my hook with a nice fat worm, I sat down to relax and wait for my first bite. It turned out that I didn't have long to wait. A large, hungry trout had been waiting at the bottom of the pond for my bait and quickly took a bite of it. I felt the tug and pulled hard on the pole in order to set the hook. Unfortunately this was the one that got away.
A1 #5 "Dreams"
Have you ever had a dream that you were flying? A dream that you were a superhero? Or a dream where you could speak a foreign language? I often have dreams that are so real I can't be sure if they really happened or not. The strangest feeling is waking up from a dream that seemed so real that you thought you were in a different place. It can be very confusing when you first wake up with the feeling that you were just somewhere else a moment earlier. A good dream can make you happy all day long.
A1 #6 "A Drop Of Water"
If you look closely you will see a whole new world in a drop of water. Tiny animals live in even the smallest drop of water from the ocean, a lake, a river or a pond. You may even find some small animals in the water you drink, but the chance is very small. In order to see these little animals, you will need a special type of device called a microscope. This device has special lenses that make small objects appear much larger to our eyes. Take a drop of water and look at it. What can you see?
